Nigerian Passports require a Valid Schengen Visa. I booked the flight a few weeks before my trip and it cost me £340 for a return ticket from London. I stayed in Greece for a week where I visited Athens, Santorini and Naxos.
I flew out of London Stansted and as usual I travelled alone, which I have come to enjoy. It was a three hour flight from London to Athens that took forever but I was excited anyways.
To get around Athens you can purchase tickets at the train station that costs 1.30 Euros per ride. I went around Athens with a local (a friend of mine) so I paid less by purchasing student tickets that cost just 0.70 Euros. The people in Athens were very nice to me and they speak good English. I took blue star ferry from Athens to Santorini and then Santorini to Naxos and finally back to Athens. Ferry from Athens to Santorini cost about 40 euros and Santorini to Naxos cost less than 30 Euros.
Everything was in Greek, (literally!) but no worries the signs are translated to English.
I stayed in a hostel in a very dodgy neighborhood for two nights but with my friend walking me back both nights I felt safe. In Santorini I stayed in a nice hotel with double beds that cost about 30 Euros for the night. My favorite accommodation was this amazing studio where the owner gave me a good deal of 60 Euros for two nights. The people on the islands were so nice to me.
What to do in Athens
Being an Art History graduate, I travel majorly for the arts so first place I visited was the National Archeological Museum in Athens. It costs about 10 Euros or 15 but trust me its worth it. I enjoyed the sculptures here more than the Louvre. You have to eat in Monastiraki with the locals, its cheap and really good and the neighborhood is gorgeous. You cannot leave Athens without going to Acropolis and Benaki museum. Acropolis costs about 12 Euros and Benaki is free.
What to do in Santorini
Side note: Santorini is a very romantic place with a picturesque feeling so don’t travel there if you are single, jealousy will catch you. With that said, everyone should visit Santorini. It’s very important to see the sunset, its something you must experience. I stayed in Fira, so I had to take a bus (2.2 euros) to Oia to see the sunset. The beaches are also a must so I went to Kamari beach. Other beaches in Santorini if I remember correctly are in Fira, Kamari and Oia.
What to do in Naxos.
O Naxos how I love thee! I mean I would retire here in 5 years God willing. The sunset here is also gorgeous if I may add. I mostly spent hours on different beaches so that’s a must. The bar beaches are amazing too, so stop by.
I took the train from my hotel in Athens to the airport, it’s pretty easy and it took about half an hour. My flight was delayed for about an hour but trust me I was not sad cause I did not want to leave Greece.
If you visit Greece, you have to go island hopping and stop by Paros, I was told it’s a beautiful island.
